La Pine, a town in the South end of Deschutes County, is Oregon's newest incorporated city, voted in by its residents in 2006. It is in an area populated by countless tall pines and is at an elevation of 4300 feet, so it is blessed with cool clear air and beautiful sunrises and sunsets. The Deschutes and the Little Deschutes Rivers run through town and provide excellent trout fishing opportunities.
One of the few remaining communities in bustling Central Oregon where half acre and greater residential homesites are still plentiful and homes affordable, La Pine is but a half hour to forty-five minute drive to Bend, and many residents make the daily commute on Highway 97.
Recreational activities abound, with the nearby La Pine State Park next door and the Cascade Lakes Highway a short drive from town. The 50,000 acre Newberry National Volcanic Monument and Paulina Peak is East of town, and provides hiking, biking, camping, boating, fishing, horseback riding, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, and spectacular geological features to appreciate. It too has lakes, as does the Cascades Range to the West.
